The UK welcomed 679,970 international students in the 2021-22 academic year, with 44% from non-EU countries like China (151,690) and India (126,535) (HESA, 2023). In 2023, 415,103 sponsored study visas were granted, a 31% drop from 600,024 in 2022, reflecting tighter policies (Home Office, 2024).
Despite this, the UK aims for 600,000 international students annually, a target exceeded in 2022 with 605,000 (Universities UK, 2023). Tuition fees for international students average £16,800-£20,050 yearly, far above the £9,535 cap for UK students (Coventry University, 2024). In 2024, 139,175 Graduate Route visas allowed post-study work, with 46.3% going to Indian nationals (GOV.UK, 2024).
